Lindsay’s SEO and SMM Alerts – 9/8/10 Addition

Hello from the most magic place in the world…. Yes, Disney!

September is a busy month for birthdays in our family, my father (@jwdicks) and sister (@suburbanmomclub) are two days apart and as you probably know, I have a niece named Kendal; she’s 2 1/2. So, with all of that combined, it’s a wonderful excuse for us all to get together and go out to Disney for the weekend. We started this tradition last year; we decided we would go out and stay at a different resort each year to celebrate the birthdays… this year, Disney’s Animal Kingdom… or as K calls it, the “petting zoo.”

I’ll be posting some pics on Facebook next week from our adventure this weekend, so if we’re not already connected on Facebook- let’s connect!

Also – wanted to make sure you saw this- a friend of mine (@marismith) shared this with me- how to add video to your LinkedIn profile (shows step-by-step video on how to)

Mashable’s 25 Essential Social Media Resources You May Have Missed

Search Engine Journal’s Weekly Search & Social News 09/07/10

President Clinton takes your questions on YouTube

No matter what your political views on Clinton are, this is something to look at. Even Presidents, once viewed as unreachable and untouchable, are now over and over again using the power of social media to reach those they never could before. Obama did it with his campaign to the white house, and now Clinton uses YouTube to take questions. If a President can use it to reach his “prospects,” businesses certainly can.

How to Create Fan-only Facebook Content

This is VERY cool! And actually, the first I’ve really heart about it. We’ve been designing FMBL (which is just an HTML page for facebook) welcome pages for clients for a while now, but I haven’t seen this “fans only” stuff. It’s like a membership site for Facebook. Users MUST become a “fan” before they see your content. Now- I’m not sure how this would work for smaller companies, because me personally, I probably would just leave the page. But kinda a cool idea regardless. What do you think?

The Shift From the Traditional Media of Marketing to the Internet Media of Marketing

“As everyone in the office will start talking about social media and SEO according to what they have heard and what impressions they have gathered from the water cooler conversations or meetings. Everyone has an opinion but to make everyone come to a right consensus in accepting this new communication, PR, marketing and branding tool will surely take time but it is the onus of the team who is managing this task to see that the minimum possible time is taken for the adjustment as social media is growing at an alarming rate and you cannot afford to miss the bus when the company buzz can have a global market outreach at such a high level and especially at such an alarming speed.”

Google Launches New Search Interface: Google Instant

“Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. We are pushing the limits of our technology and infrastructure to help you get better search results, faster. Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.”

How to Measure Social Media’s Impact on Customer Retention

Social Media Examiner is one of my favorite resources, I like their articles because they’re not afraid to “pull back the curtain” and let you into the “how” of social media instead of just giving the general concept… which by now, we all get ? This article provides a great case study on Comcast and the impact of social media on customer retention. They then give 7 tips on how you can apply this to your business.

2 LinkedIin Networking Tips You Should be Aware of

Everyone always talks about Twitter and Facebook (myself included); LinkedIn can sometimes be the younger sibling of the social media networks and forgotten. This article describes two was to tie LinkedIn into your social media marketing so it’s not forgotten.
